Abstract Due to space availability limitations and high land costs, there is an increasing development of multi-floor manufacturing (MFM) systems in urban industrial areas. The problem coordination a process, the Ramadge Wonham framework, introduced. chain each floor elevator system are modeled form finite deterministic automata. models process parametric with respect number floors machines on floor. desired performance formulated regular languages analytic forms. realized by appropriate supervisors also total control accomplished via modular supervisory architecture. complexity as well architecture determined forms special case two presented illustrative example.
